Mindful Book Group

Our goal for the Mindful Book Group is to embrace mindfulness practices in all areas of our lives. All the books that are chosen for our group are either from teachers of mindfulness or otherwise rooted in mindfulness practices. Certainly, during our sessions, we will be practicing Mindfulness in one form or another.

We meet every other week and take one chapter each time we meet. This makes it manageable for members so they feel they need to be in a rush to finish the book immediately. It’s all about mindfulness!

We have been meeting since January 2021 and new members are always welcome to join us!

At this time, we have one group that meets every Friday at 12:00 pm – 1:00 (1:15) pm CST. Note: Sessions are not recorded but I will record the meditations that I use. You can still join the email group and share with the group your insights and what you are learning.

If you have trouble joining the email group or need Zoom information, contact me.

This book by beloved Buddhist teacher Pema Chödrön who offers guidance for coping with the difficult moments in our lives—showing us how they can soften our hearts and open us to greater kindness

We always have a choice in how we react to the circumstances of our lives. We can let them harden us and make us increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us and allow our inherent human kindness to shine through.

In The Places That Scare You, Pema Chödrön provides essential tools for dealing with the many difficulties that life throws our way, teaching us how to awaken our basic human goodness and connect deeply with others—to accept ourselves and everything around us complete with faults and imperfections. Drawing from the core teachings of Buddhism, she shows the strength that comes from staying in touch with what’s happening in our lives right now and helps us unmask the ways in which our egos cause us to resist life as it is. If we go to the places that scare us, Pema suggests, we just might find the boundless life we’ve always dreamed of.
